For the last two years, the Women’s Wing of the Sathya Sai Center of Des Moines, in collaboration with the Visiting Nurse Services (VNS), have organised prenatal classes for pregnant refugee women through the Stork Nest Program. The purpose of these classes is to educate the women and promote their well-being. Many of these refugee women live in the U.S with their husbands and have no other family members.

On 24th May 2019, as a part of honouring these refugee women, SSIO volunteers organised a baby-shower for three participants of the Stork Nest Program who were expectant mothers. Volunteers collected and packaged gift items, arranged snacks, and spent time with the pregnant ladies and their husbands. In an expression of deep gratitude, two expectant mothers penned notes in Burmese to the Women’s Wing. After witnessing their joy, the volunteers felt gratified that they could support the displaced women as they embarked on a new phase of life.
