On 2nd February 2019, SSIO volunteers in Barbados visited a geriatric hospital in the island’s capital, Bridgetown. Five Sai Spiritual Education students prepared care packages, containing soap, toothpaste, lotions and towels, for 36 senior residents at the facility. SSIO volunteers, including young adults, spent the afternoon with the hospital’s patients, and sang Christian songs and hymns, including Blessed Assurance and Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The singing brought much joy to both the residents and staff. While sharing news about the island’s favourite sport, cricket, the young adults were saddened to learn that the seniors had no access to television or radio and immediately resolved to donate radios and televisions for the recreational area in the hospital. Reflecting on the experience, a young adult commented, “The visit to the geriatric hospital made us realize how grateful we are for our loved ones and made us value all that we have in life.”
