Since 2003, the SSIO has partnered with the Gulf Coast Health Center to host a medical camp for low-income households in Jasper, Texas. This year, 70 volunteers from the Sathya Sai Centres of North Houston, South Houston, Austin, Dallas and Longview provided basic healthcare services to approximately 125 patients. The medical camp offered cholesterol and blood pressure monitoring, blood and glucose testing, vision checks, dental examinations and health education. Several guests who had not been able previously to get a diagnosis for their ailments were grateful for the opportunity to receive medical attention. In addition to medical services, SSIO volunteers collected and donated about 8,000 cans of food to the Harvest Church pantry in Jasper and distributed helmets to children to encourage bicycle safety. Commemorating the 15th anniversary of the annual medical camp, the Gulf Coast Health Center presented the volunteers with a cake and a plaque. Many patients expressed grateful appreciation for the loving services.
