SSIO members and young adults from the Sathya Sai Centre of Toronto-York celebrated the 20th anniversary of hosting a wheelchair clinic at Participation House in Markham, Ontario on 15th July 2017. Persons with physical challenges receive care and housing at this facility. At the clinic, volunteers clean the wheelchairs meticulously, using toothbrushes and rags to scrub off dirt and debris from the wheels, frame, and seats. Motorised wheelchairs are mechanically serviced and the tires checked and inflated, as needed. One recipient expressed her gratitude, sharing how a clean wheelchair improved her life as it affected how people viewed and treated her. SSIO volunteers found the activity rewarding. Several young adults have served as volunteers at this project since childhood, inspired by the opportunity to serve.
