Across the USA, Sathya Sai Centres observed Avatar Declaration Day in October 2013 with service activities and devotional meetings. Sathya Sai volunteers in every region of the country prepared and served hot meals to the homeless, the elderly and the poor, and distributed meal and snack packets. They served food at soup kitchens and stocked food-pantry shelves.
Sathya Sai devotees also distributed coats, blankets, hygiene kits and schools supplies to the homeless living in shelters and on the streets. In Northern Colorado, Sathya Sai volunteers distributed food packets to people who were rendered homeless as a result of devastating floods. Members from both the North Houston and the South Houston Sathya Sai Centres distributed toiletry kits and food to needy families in three impoverished communities located more than a hundred miles away.
