The Sri Sathya Sai Center of Seattle Eastside, in partnership with Volunteers of America Western Washington (VOAWW), is empowering Ukrainian refugees toward stability and self-sufficiency. This collaboration, initiated by an immigration lawyer at the center, leverages Sai volunteers’ diverse skills to address the refugees’ employment needs. In September 2024, they launched a resume-building workshop. Two intensive, two-hour sessions equipped 30 Ukrainian participants with invaluable insights into the U.S. job market. Sai volunteers shared job search experiences, emphasized transferable skills, and offered personalized resume guidance, tailoring feedback for professionals in computer science, teaching, and medicine.

Participants expressed immense gratitude for the practical advice on job searching, ‘LinkedIn’, and resume structuring, leading to increased confidence. The sessions also highlighted a language barrier that may hinder their ability to secure jobs despite high qualifications. Recognizing this, volunteers launched a Conversational English Tutoring Program in February 2025. The program’s goal is to enhance spoken English skills for professional and social communication. Inspired by Sai teachings,  the volunteers are dedicated to supporting the Ukrainian refugees to make them self-reliant.
