In September 2024, the dedicated ladies of the SSSIO New Zealand’s Northern Region came together to support children and parents using the Starship Hospital, a hospital in Auckland that provides healthcare to youngsters in New Zealand and the South Pacific. It was decided that handmade blankets would provide warmth and comfort to those in need during their time at the hospital.
Recognizing the emotional and physical challenges faced by families in the hospital, the group wanted to offer something that provided a source of warmth and a tangible expression of love and comfort. To accomplish this goal, 17 ladies and two children joined hands to craft 18 blankets infused with love, care, and compassion. In addition, another 9 blankets were donated by one of the ladies.
The contribution of 27 blankets by the SSSIO of New Zealand was gratefully received and acknowledged by the hospital.
The activity is another example of the dedicated commitment of SSSIO volunteers to play a helpful, caring, and compassionate role in assisting their communities, in a spirit of oneness, love, and gratitude to the society of which they are a part.
