Eighteen Detroit Metro SSE students (aged 12-15) brought Valentine’s Day cheer to the residents of the Courtyard Manor Nursing Home in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with a heartwarming visit filled with handmade gifts, music, and laughter.
The enthusiastic students arrived armed with gifts they had lovingly created – decorative coasters made from recycled CDs and colorful paper flower baskets. They had also prepared a short lively program featuring vocal music, instrumental music, magic tricks, and jokes to entertain the residents, as well as songs filled with positive messages to uplift their spirits. Snacks such as assorted muffins and juice were distributed as a mid-day treat.
As the students served the seniors and exchanged kind words, they experienced the joy of bringing smiles to their faces and sharing their handmade tokens with the residents. The visit exemplified not only the power of service but also the mutual joy of connecting the young volunteers with the seniors.
