Members of the Sri Sathya Sai Group of Orlando have been volunteering with Clean the World, a global nonprofit organization that recycles discarded hotel soaps to combat hygiene-related illnesses. With an estimated 2 million bars of soap wasted daily by the hospitality industry and 450,000 child deaths annually from preventable diseases like diarrhea, this initiative tackles both waste and global health. Since 2009, Clean the World has recycled over 28 million pounds of soap and distributed more than 87 million bars worldwide.
After discovering the organization in 2019, SSSIO volunteers resumed in-person service in 2024 after the end of the COVID pandemic, with 12 members helping to sort and package soap at the Orlando warehouse. Their hands-on work, motivated by the impact of saving lives, shows that even small acts of service contribute to a greater cause.
