Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) students of the Sathya Sai Centre of Boston joined about 2,000 volunteers from across the city in the annual Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Day of Service on Monday, 16th January 2017. The event, organised by the City of Cambridge, honours the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a great civil liberty leader, with the goal of serving indigent families, seniors, veterans, and the disabled. The SSE students made Valentine cards with messages of love, hope, and peace to share with the community. They helped sort toiletries for homeless shelters and made warm blankets and scarves for those facing bitter cold weather. The event was both inspiring and enjoyable and taught the children a lesson in giving and serving. One SSE child remarked that making a blanket was his favourite activity, because he felt gratified knowing it would keep a child of his age warm during Boston’s chilly winters.
