Many low-income families were rendered destitute during a recent typhoon in the Philippines, and their children, who were malnourished, needed food and care. In response, the SSIO of the Philippines arranged food service with the help of senior citizens and former teachers at Ilagan. For one month, volunteers served food daily to 108 kindergarten to grade 6 students, plus 14 adults. The adults, including former teachers and elderly volunteers, took turns cooking and serving the students. The teachers also presented a slide show on sustaining the program. One result is that the Casa Del Nino classrooms were named after human values.
