The Ranchito is a community of people living in extreme poverty in Monterrey, Mexico. In desperation, homeless people had built makeshift homes there of cardboard and wood, or cement in a few cases. The settlement was subsequently destroyed by a fire in 2014, rendering 23 families homeless and destitute once again. Sathya Sai volunteers and community members of Monterrey joined hands to rebuild the homes destroyed in the fire. The Sathya Sai Centre of Monterrey supplied cooking utensils for the people of Ranchito and held a medical camp on 21st November 2015, as part of the 90th birthday celebration of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The camp, organised by 26 members of the Sathya Sai Centre of Monterrey, included several doctors. Besides conducting medical consultations and distributing medicines, Sathya Sai members also provided haircuts, distributed food staples, and held SSEVH classes for children. In addition, the volunteers lovingly fed the neglected local dogs.
