As part of the Community Adoption Programme (CAP), Sathya Sai members in New Zealand have helped refugee children with school homework for the past 15 years. The programme, called Study Care, was started in the Glen Innes area in response to Bhagawan’s call to offer free tuition classes for underprivileged children. The Study Care programme presently serves children, youth, and a few adults in the Burmese refugee community by helping them learn English and basic mathematics. The volunteers also assist indigent families with buying furniture and groceries, resettlement, and medical treatment. Ten volunteers provide tuition, including SSEHV, to 26 children currently. On a heart-warming note, a student from the initial group of children served in 2000 has now entered the prestigious Otago University to study neuroscience. In observance of Avatar Declaration Day in 2014, some of the children produced beautiful artwork illustrating the motto, Help Ever – Hurt Never.
