In Puerto Rico, Sathya Sai volunteers cook and serve food to about 40 homeless people on the first Sunday of every month. They started this service project several years ago and secured a permanent location in the city of San Juan, in January 2013. The homeless, who sleep on the streets or in public places, are happy to receive the breakfast, which is often their only meal of the day. The volunteers serve food and read a short spiritual message and a prayer.
